External Paid Services Special Offers

Recommended Posts

Writing this to share some good offers I use by myself. Neither I am nor Hercules is related to these services.

VPS Availability Check 2019-10-21

ionos.DE (ionos = 1&1) is offering a good VPS for 1€/month. The website is - as you may thought - in german, but it is simple enough to order it. You need to scroll down and select VPS S. I don't think there is any cheaper service for a small VPS like this.

  • 1 vCore Intel® Xeon® E5 CPU
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 10 GB SSD
  • 1,– €/Mon.

VPN Availability Check 2019-10-21

Windscripe is offering a free VPN Service with 20gb/month traffic for lifetime.

You need to register an account, then go to your accounts status tab and use the code FACTORY2

  • US West

Whats the difference between vpn and vps?

Im assuming thats what i need to host a stable server

But is it just the IP im renting... or do i shift all my files and stuff onto the server im renting... and have to host from there...

Couldnt I just have my own internet connection i pay for... 40$/month and run it off of that?

Guess ill have to look >_<

A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system (OS), and customers may have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.

Quote

A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing

Sounds like I need a VPN and I use that IP to host my server ?

Im assuming the issue in lag is where the host is from and that would be my reason to not host on my own private internet connection?

 it is used to decrease hardware costs by condensing a failover cluster to a single machine. Thus decreasing costs dramatically while providing the same services.

Any elaboration would be awesome

As you said, A VPS is a Virtual Private Server. Imagine it like this: You own 1 Dedicated Server and decide not to host 1 OS on it, but instead you create 10 Partitions and sell those 10 Partitions to individual people. They all get their own IP, their own OS and got root permissions inside their partition. But they all share the same machine. (This is basically what RO Server resellers do). And partition isn't the right term here but I think it makes it easy to understand. This is a very basic explaination, and also it does not fit with modern Cloud VPS like Ionos offers it, but I think you get the idea.

The 1€ VPS I mentioned above is good to be used as a test server or w/e.
The VPN again.. well, I recommend you read this article: https://www.howtogeek.com/133680/htg-explains-what-is-a-vpn/

Without a VPN, there is a directly connection between you and the internet.

You <======> Internet

If you are conneted to a VPN, you use it to connect to the internet.

You <=Encrypted Connection=> VPN <=====> Internet

So all the traffic is handled/ecrypted/secured by the VPN.

In Hercules you can actually use a VPN connection to provide different "Login Nodes" for your players so they have a better Ping.

I guess its not something I should be concerned about

Im gonna have to check into this VPN nonsense for login nodes maybe...

Thanks

Been around for some years now. I first saw it on one of those Russian servers. Never seen any piece of code or the like regarding it, so personally have no idea how it works.

From my experience, they were all terrible. Logging in regularly and not using one of "proxy server"s as they are known always proved best for me. But it may have also had something to do with the fact I live in New Zealand and the destination server was in Russia. This was also 4-5 years ago, so technology probably improved in that time.

IMO, until proven otherwise, they are vanity features and are only good as marketing tools. They may help a niche group though.
