When bidding or direct buying your own item on the auction system, it will say 'failed to bid on item' then under it will show the @showzeny dialog with the amount of zeny you were bidding or direct buying, thats if of course if you have @showzeny on/enabled.
I am sure this would come up also if you were doing it to someone else's auction and you didnt have the right amount of zeny.

3. if bid is invalid for some reason, return it to map-server with error code & bid amount
4. return zeny to player (here's where @showzeny kicks in)

It would be more consistent if @showzeny also displayed zeny lost/paid.

However, more important issue is it can also cause zeny loss, if charserver is not available at the moment of bidding.
