In regards to this topic: http://herc.ws/board/topic/2028-server-paying/

There appears to be no official method by Hercules (or any other emulator) that incorporates the "paid server" mode. While the comments above the setting state that there are no functional side effects to which mode is selected, shouldn't there be? I mean, official servers do have pay-to-play channels.

bgamez23 - Aug 16, 2013 10:35

if your server is pay to play. no one will play on it. since your a private server not an official server.

You're missing the point. Regardless of whether or not players will find a pay-to-play server appealing, it is still an official mechanic that does not exist on our emulator, which follows closely along with the official features and mechanic.

Example: The PIN Code system is kinda retarded (in my opinion), but it was implemented anyways because its an official feature and it was desired.

As far as usefulness goes, a pay-to-play mode will indeed be unappealing for the general population, but (hypothetically speaking) a second server channel with the pay-to-play mode might be useful for server owners who create a second channel for build-testing purposes, limitless exploring, and/or the ability to do other things that you wouldn't be able to do on the "main" server channel. This second channel could be utilised for donation funds and giving players (who can afford it) a place to do as they please with little or no limitations. Of course, there are other methods to accomplish they same idea on a subserver, but the point was that there is no official way to simply do so; again, this is just an idea, but a pay-to-play server can be appealing if you make it so.

the pin code system is really useful. it help you a lot specially on hacking an account. and also to avoid bot. maybe that's why it was implemented. regarding on pay-to-play. even the official have that features. who cares? who wanna play on a private server with a pay-to-play setup?? :D

Lol? The PIN Code system was implemented because it's an official feature. And again, you're missing the point: While some server owners may find it useful and others might not, pay-to-play is an official feature. In regards to whether or not anyone would want to play on a pay-to-play server, take a moment to actually read and comprehend the last paragraph in my previous post; it's entirely up to the server owner to incentivise a pay-to-play server (which I feel would be more successful as a subserver). If you can't give your players a reason to want to buy into a pay-to-play server, that's entirely on you. You are not obliged to use pay-to-play mode, but the option to use it (officially) is nonexistent.

yah i know. it is an official features. and its also very useful. not kinda retarded (in your own f opinion)

and there is a lot of issue that should be more prioritize than this. and it should be discuss first on suggestion.

It is true there is a way to connect, I'll see if I can find something in the logs of aegis.

xienne15 - Aug 16, 2013 16:10

+1 to this i wanna try out how this pay-to-play features work too. It has been in RO since ragnarok started, so it should be really added long long time ago but it is being ignored. I know it's not that big stuff, but still official feature should be added too whether it is not that so important or important The purpose of it itself is not really for players to play on but to implement it as an official feature release. Well i am just curious because when i was starting to play RO in official server i am always scratching RO cards to play, now i want to know how does it works.

It is indeed not a high-priority issue, but should be addressed sooner than later. This isn't a suggestion, nor was it really up for much discussion; it is literally something that functions officially and is unavailable on our emulator, which follows the official release.

Mad Walker - Aug 17, 2013 2:57

This pay to play version of ragnarok is not a good idea. In Philippines, Level up games official server met its downfall because of uprising free to play versions of ragnarok. Just to give everyone an idea about pay to play feature, in our country they used to sell a card. The card has pin number to be inputted on your account on their website. Then you can play for couple of hours. Let's say for 5 hours = 1$( just an example not the right figures.) After 5 hours, your account will be logged out automatically prompting that you have to "load" another pin so you can play again.

Beret - Aug 17, 2013 3:17

Excuse me more idea is good Yes, private is totally free more is how the VIA said I can offer a service to those who donate to the server, giving access to the paid server for donate. I hope this feature because it is ind add something official and that can help a lot.

None of the options of 1 to 4 is working as it should

1 - maintenance = Here you must block access to the server allowing only GM.

2 - over 18 = Here is to check the age of the player for him to have access if it has 18 years or more.

3 - paying = here is to check if the player has and how much credit he has time before being kicked from the server. If the time ends and he is online will be kicked from the server and a message will be displayed that he need more credits.

4 - P2P = Here is the server in free mode.

don't pretend you know everything and you know how to make it work. :)) not all official features can be implemented at the moment. since this features is not yet supported. this should be discus first. not to be discus on the bug tracker. better to use the proper forum ^_^

I've already spoken with our developers about this, and it is rather simple. The basic mechanics can be accomplished (for the most part) with scripts alone, but the ultimate goal would be core implementation within the source code.

The reason this is posted here is because it is an official feature and is not supported. The only person here who is continuously making a discussion of it is you. While we currently don't have rules for the Bug Tracker, it should be common knowledge that the Bug Tracker and its Issue Confirmation poll is not intended for voting whether or not the issue at hand should or should not be implemented; its purpose is to bring an issue to attention and verify whether or not it is not working as intended and should be fixed or implemented.

I thank you all for your contributions to the discussion however this is more of a suggestion than a bug report, if anyone is willing to quote these points and put them in the suggestion forum it'll be more than appreciated.

bgamez23 - Sep 10, 2013 18:06

thanks for giving a clarification for them. :)

Beret - Sep 10, 2013 19:08

Actually should be considered a bug, because the packet is already implemented, will create a suggestion with explanation of the functioning. Thanks ind.
